Welcome to Wild Boar Adventures in 2012
My name is Duncan Boar. I'm an International Mountain Leader offering guided trekking holidays in the Italian Alps, Dolomite and Abruzzo regions of Italy.
In the Italian Alps I offer guided treks based mainly in the Gressoney Valley, below the Monta Rosa. Here you can experience alpine life, trek the high mountains with stunning views over glaciers and stay overnight in comfortable mountain huts. There are also low level less arduous walks the chance to see the Alpine meadow flowers in bloom. I also offer the option to visit the vineyards of the Carema DOC region, touring the vineyards in the pony and trap of my friend Nadino, who owns a small farm in the valley.
On the southern side of the Val D'Aosta in the Mont Avic Park and Gran Paradiso I also run hotel based day walks as well as a 7 day hut to hut trip across the park. Fantastic scenery
I also spend a lot of time guiding in the Brenta Dolomites. Here against the backdrop of towering spires of limestone rock I can take you away from the main alpine trails to explore lesser routes used by the local 'Contadini' or follow escape routes, used by allied servicemen during World War Two, to reach the Swiss border.
In the Abruzzo region I can offer treks in the Parco D'Abruzzo, one of the premier national parks of Italy. Here you can climb mountains over 2000 metres high or trek through the forests, where you may see one of the 100 or so Marsican Brown Bears living in the park. There is also the chance to see Wolf, Deer, Fox and many other animals and bird life.
Equally stunning are the Morrone & Majella Mountains that offer fantastic trekking. These are magical and mysterious places with their legends of bandits, ancient monastic routes and transhumance routes that used to run from Foggia, further south in Molise, to Chieti in the north. There are also the escape trails, used by allied servicemen in World War Two, who escaped from the Italian prisoner of war camp 'Campo PG78' at Fonte D'Amore, about 5 kilometres from Sulmona.
If these don't whet your appetite for exploration, then there is the Gran Sasso Park on the Appenine range. Here I run a weekend trek to reach the summit of Corno Grande (2912 metres) with an overnight stay in nearby mountain refuges.
All my trips offer you breathtaking scenery and summits, the possibility to see mountain wildlife and alpine flowers and enjoy the challenge of travelling in wild places. Also to learn about local customs and folklore as well as wines and food. This is not just a trekking holiday with someone showing you the way - it is a chance to immerse yourself in the culture of the area, to enjoy fantastic scenery and good company at the same time.
